Yesterday I saw on Cisco Support Page a wonderful command can we use to compare the changes that have taken place between the settings for the
Startup-configuration and the Run-configuration
Today we talk about this Command because of their great utility to discovery some errors of Engineers, which sometimes work on the hardware.
The beginning I would like to say that this topic has many benefits and one of the most important of these benefits is a comparison between the settings on the NVRam with the settings in the RAM.
you will ask me why I should work on such a comparison?
To answer this question
I will ask you to impose you write some commands on the router and you forgot what the command that you type and want to know if you copy the settings from the Ram to the NVRam or not
maybe will happen to you any problem or conflict in the settings
The second benefit Suppose also that the router has occurred a problem and you want to retrieve a copy of the existing settings in the TFTP Server
But before you do this thing you want to know which settings were changed.
Before I write the Commad You can Say So what is new ?
iwill Show run and after the Show start
and than compare between the two Command Line in Extra text File.
of course you can But will also take a long time
if you’re using this method I advise you to download Compare It Software , which you cancomparing
between file and show the places of difference between them.
I do some settings on the router including the IP interface Fastethernet and also I change the Host name from Cisco router to nettipps
on the Privilege Mode
[stextbox id=”custom”]show archive config differences system:running-config nvram:startup-config[/stextbox]
comparison between the Run and the Start and the result will be as follows
What you will note from this picture?
The first thing you will notice.
you see plus sign “+” which means the settings on the NVRam
and negative sign”-” which means the settings on the Ram or the Run config
This is not limited only to the comparison between the NVRam and the Ram, but we can comparisons between different places, including the TFTP .
the list of places which you can be resorted to.
